Ramona Young Eagles Pilot Information

The following information is provided to clarify the experience and status of the Ramona Young Eagle pilots.

 

All the Young Eagle pilots are  FAA certified private pilots. All but one of the five are instrument rated pilots.  All pilots have at least 1000 hours of flight time.  One of the pilots is a certified flight instructor.

The participating aircraft are all FAA certified aircraft. The aircraft are all well maintained and exceed the FAA standards for routine maintenance.

The type aircraft follows:

 

1962 Mooney M20 with excessive upgrades that exceed $100,000. The aircraft has a recently rebuilt Millennium engine. Navigation system includes a GNS480 IFR certified GPS with GPSS roll steering and Stec autopilot. Other items include speed brakes and altitude selection systems. This aircraft is piloted by Carl Swepston, an FAA Instrument rated pilot with 1700 total flight hours. Carl is a retired LT from the U.S. Navy SEAL teams.

 

2005 Piper Archer PA28 with GNS 430 GPS coupled to GPSS roll steering systems. Aircraft is well maintained with estimated value around $130,000. The aircraft is piloted by Steve Davis an instrument rated pilot with 1000+ flight hours. Steve is an ex-Secret Service agent who served on Air Force One for Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.  

 

2000 Cessna Skyhawk C182 Aircraft if full IFR certified and is powered by new continental engine. The aircraft is exceptionally well maintained. The aircraft is flown by Don Grondin, Don is an instrument rated private pilot with over 1000 flight hours. Don has a PhD in pharmaceuticals and flies his plane regularly in his business.

 

1992 Piper Cherokee 235 The aircraft is full IFR certified and is powered by a new 235 horse powered Lycoming engine. Avionics include a GNS 430 GPS system. The aircraft is flown by Frank Himmerich.  Frank is an instrument rated private pilot with 2000+ flight hours. Frank flies Doctors and Dentists throughout Mexico twice monthly. Frank is a retired LCDR from the USN.

 

1958 Cessna 170 The aircraft is full IFR certified and is powered by an upgraded 180 horse powered Lycoming engine. The aircraft is flown by Dick Bradshaw.  Dick is a Commercial Flight Instructor with 5000+ flight hours. Dick is a successful business owner and owns and flies a Twin Beachcraft Baron. Dick routinely flies his aircraft across the United States for business.

 

1958 Cessna 170 The aircraft is an FAA certified aircraft and is well maintained and powered by a 150 horse powered Lycoming engine. The aircraft is flown by Don Eckert. Don is a private pilot with 1000+ flight hours. In addition to the C170 Don flies a Stearman bi-plane. Don is employed as a civil service employee at North Island Naval Air Station. Don will be piloting a Stearman at NORIS during the upcoming Civilian Employees appreciation event.
